Car insurance premiums - daft pricing
I did a search for my son's car insurance quote through confused.com. He's under 25 with no accidents or convictions, with just a one year's NCB.
Admiral was just over a quid cheaper if he doesn't have a black box (usually more expensive if you don't have a black box). The highest quote was almost £4,000 which is a slight increase from £719 |

My son is in a similar position. He took out an Admiral policy when learning to drive and although not cheapest as a learner it was best for after he had passed his test. Sticking me on as a second named driver helps too.

I don’t get car insurance. We wanted to add DD who has just turned 17. As a learner our current insurer, direct line, wanted an extra £120 a month. Went on line and got new policy with post office and was only £20 more than we’re paying now. Phoned DL to cancel and they said try us again next year as they’ll be more competitive

Different insurers are willing to take on different risks. Some just do not want to be in the young driver market and as such price themselves out of it which is why you see some very high prices. They don't want that business.
Adding parents etc can have a big impact because in theory it spreads the risk as it won't always be the young driver at the wheel. |

We found exactly the same. Even when my son was last insured with Admiral it was cheaper online than phonng them direct.
I have no choice but to phone specialist car insurance companies as my car has been modified (tuned/remapped), but even with this year's renewal I saved £180 by calling other insurers. Some people don't tell insurance companies about their car's modifications, but it can come back to bite them in the rear. |

Just a little tip, when looking at renewals, Martin Lewis recommends you look between 20 and 26 days before your policy is due to renew. Worked for me last year and got another good price this year saving nearly £100
