Caladesi Island?
Hi - has anyone been to Caldesi Island? And if so is it reasonable easy to get to from Clearwater? I understand you can only get there by ferry, presumably there is good parking at the place where you catch the ferry from?
We will be staying in Clearwater and looking for somewhere we can go kayaking - this looks like a good spot but any more recommendations welcome. |

Hello,
Very easy to get there from Clearwater. You catch the ferry from Honeymoon Island State Park. The Florida state park site gives you all the info you need about both parks: floridastateparks/cal...nd/default.cfm |

Forgot to add that ferry prices are a little expensive at $14 per person and you can only stay for 4 hours, you are told the time of the ferry you must come back on.

Thanks - after writing my question I went off and read up a bit and discovered this info. I guess what I am trying to work out it whether it's worth paying that sort of money for or whether there's an alternative with kayaking through mangroves and wildlife and all that jazz that's not too far away.

When we were at Clearwater last summer there were a few places you could hire kayaks along the coast but you can't go through the mangroves other than on Caladesi. If you were particularly strong paddlers you could hire a kayak on the coast at Dunedin and paddle across the bay to Caladesi, but I wouldn't fancy it myself.
We did kayak through the mangroves on Caladesi and it was a very interesting experience - not to be done if you are claustrophobic at all. If you want any specific info or to see a couple of pictures let me know. |
