Thanks. I didn't even know that iPads with sims existed until very recently. I wish I had known a few weeks ago and then may be I would not have had to let my DH use my phone as a hot spot!

but you can turn your phone on as a wifi hot spot and connect to that to go on line.
Basically there are 2 types of Ipad - Wifi or Wifi And Cellular. Cellular puts a data only sim in and you use that to go online they same way your phone goes online - phone sim you can also make calls, ipad you cant. My kids ipads are all cell and wifi but only one has a sim card, when we are in the car we turn on WIFI hotspot on the one with the sim and the other 2 ipads connect to the wifi on that and piggy back the data - saves me buying 3 data sims!

if you go into the ipads setting and see Cellular or Mobile Data tab the it can take a sim, or if you go into General and get the Model Number and look it up on the web it will tell you.
or if it doesnt have a cover see if it has the little hole you put the pin in to insert the sim card. Wifi only are generally cheaper, if you bought it off a mobile provider its more likely it is cellular.

No little holes in either iPad. So wifi only.

Jan if you have a cellular one you will see this. You can then get a data only sim for your iPad,I pay £5 per month on a rolling contract. Mr S has scrapped his iPad sim and tethers his tonhos phone as he gets loads of data. My contract is due up next month so I’m probably going to change and do the same

The iPads with Sim slot are more expensive ( which is why I'm using a battered one with a slot as I can't bring myself to pay the extra for a new one as it's so handy to have but I have a wifi budget )
