Its absolutely stunning, white sand, palm trees and just gorgeous! Can't help with restaurants as we took a picnic and stopped at the cutest Dairy Queen for a shake! Pussycat

Sanibel is gorgeous, the beach is beautiful and has loads and loads of shells on it.
We have not been for some years but we had lunch at Amy's Over Easy Café, the portions were huge and the food was fresh, I had a tuna melt and it was delicious (must have been good if I can still remember it years later! ) We loved the relaxed, laid back feeling that we discovered on Sanibel. Beautiful location, stayed a few times. Hire a bike and go sightseeing, it's amazing.

We first visited when we stayed in Fort Myers, since then we've stayed three times and are returning this year. There are no chain restaurants on the island, but a great selection of places. We like Matzaluna and Island Pizza Company, as well as the diner at Jerry's supermarket.
The beaches are natural, that is they are not cleaned of natural vegetation or flotsam, but that doesn't detract, great shelling.

Loved Sanibel and have vowed to return! We stayed at the Sanibel Inn - right on the sea with gorgeous view. I got up at dawn to go shelling - there were lots of people doing the same and all the seabirds were feeding too.
We ate at the Blue Giraffe and the Island Cow. Both were great and would go there again. At trip to the Ding Darling reserve is a must and also the lighthouse (although you can't go up it). Only had a night there but next time ... !

Sanibel is gorgeous, but I can't comment on the hotels as we stayed at Fort Myers beach. Beautiful, natural beach,a lovely place to go for abreak from the Orlando area for a few days.
