Shuttle buses from other hotels on I-Drive will often check that riders are staying at that hotel, so Endless Summer might do the same.
They don't do this currently at Endless Summer - we used their buses a few times. It was very handy when staying at Royal Pacific to be able to go to I Drive without walking.

As long as the buses are not full (i.e. at park closing) I would hope Universal would not mind. It is not causing anyone any inconvenience and I saw myself as one of their customers.

We have walked up that road many many times before - the road just before the big Universal blue sign on the grass is tricky to cross as it doesn't have lights and there are 2 lanes of traffic. Other than that it isn't a bad walk.

your situation is quite different

you were a universal guest. So even if they had checked, you'd probably have been safe

you were a guest onsite, using an onsite hotel perk

it would be a different issue for an offsite guest using an onsite perk. (that is, when they start checking room keys, thus making the buses a true onsite perk)

When we stayed on i drive we always walked to Universal, the last time was from Rosen Centre which is around 4 miles. Sometimes we'd stop for breakfast on the way, plenty of choices, then, after a full day in the parks we'd walk back. Once, we made a detour and walked to Walmart from the park then back to the hotel, DON'T DO THAT.

Oh yes, I had forgotten Surfside Inn and Suites had opened already. Thanks for the clarification.

We've stayed at Four Points Sheraton, Monumental Movieland, Rosen Inn and Hilton all at top end of I-Drive and actually chose that area so that we could walk to and from Universal. Great start to the day, although a bit more tired on the way back.
