GraingerMoon - West Coast Trip

Pre-Trip

This is not really a Pre-Trip report as we had already been but i wanted to give writing a trip report ago. So let me introduce myself i'm Ben the main planner and my wife Kerry. This trip was for our honeymoon after getting married in March in Mexico.

We had lots of ideas for our Honeymoon ranging from a relaxing beach holiday to doing a more active trip.

Well after finding cheap flight to Los Angeles we decided to do a road trip around California and of course include Las Vegas. Once we had booked flights with Thomas Cook it was down to start planning our 2 week trip and where we wanted to go and provisionally book the hotels so we had something booked and then we could cancel or amend if plans changed or we found better hotels/cheaper deals.

I has always wanted to drive down the PCH and we both wanted to go to Las Vegas (I had been previously for my 30th), and of course visit Disneyland. So the original plan was to stay in LA, drive to Las Vegas and then onto San Francisco and then make our way back to LA via the PCH. So we booked hotels for Anaheim, Las Vegas, San Francisco, Monterey, Santa Barbara and Santa Monica.

Then our plans changed again, this was due to the PCH road being closed off due to the floods that happened and the amount of driving we would be doing and only staying at several places just for one night so feeling that we were rushing around too much.

So we decided on the new plan which consisted of the following:

1 night in LA not far from airport. Travelodge Commerce near the Citadel Outlets
4 Nights Las Vegas at the Venetian
2 Nights Santa Monica at Ocean View Hotel
3 Nights San Diego at The Marriott Gaslamp Quarter
4 Night Anaheim at Sheraton Park Hotel at the Anaheim Resort
We wanted a convertible to drive down the PCH but as this wasn't going to happen and i don't think we could all the suitcases in it, so we chose an Luxury car from Alamo for the boot space.

Then having flown to Mexico for our Wedding in Premium Economy with Thomson we decided we wanted to upgrade our seats with Thomas Cook so this was amended which now meant we had 35kg each plus the 2 additional 20kg cases we had booked for the return flight. So in total we had 110kg which was plenty even though we had planned to do lots of shopping.

Next up is the Trip report: Here

Yes that PCH road closure put a spanner in the works a bit didn't it, but it sounds like your revised plan worked well. Looking forward to the full trippie!
