I ditched the SLR and went for a Panasonic TZ 100. It is a delight. It's quite a bit cheaper than the Sony RX100 which is a great camera BTW. What stopped me going for the RX 100 is it stops filming 4k at 5 mins due to overheating issues. Major fail. There is hardly anything between the video between the 2 ( there are some side by side comparisons on YouTube).

Thank you for all the replies.

Very helpful and a lot of food for thought. Lots of info but fortunately still a bit of time to digest and choose.

I'm swaying away from the DSLR, every holiday we have and every family day out we take the camera bag with the Nikon and a HD Sony Camcorder. Video on both is not great and both pieces of kit are now quite old.

I think I'm going to veg on the sofa in front of You Tube and watch reviews of the Sony RX100 V and the Panny TZ 100.

I quite fancy a trip to Florida minus the camera bag and a small camera in the pocket :-)

A 'Q' for the Sony owners, hows the stabilization on the videos you take?

And a 'Q' for YorkshireT, hows the stabilization on the Panny videos you take?

Thanks again all!

the sony rx100 V is really brilliant... to me it's whether you'll take more "normal" range photos and want better than a phone in which case the rx100 V is really great... OR if you want amazing range with decent quality in which case an RX10 iv is wow

Using a Manfrotto Pixi tripod as a grip I've yet to have to engage the dynamic stabilisation I find the optical stabilisation to be very good

Disclaimer here I've used gripped slr's for so long the RX100's feel so small I had to find help in holding for videos, and in vlogging/selfie taking the tripod gives you a better arm pose

Just an update...I pulled the trigger on a Sony RX100 Mark 5

Traded in the trusty old Nikkon D90 yesterday (feels odd not having an SLR)

Not really had much of a play with the new camera but so far (in doors the pictures and 4K have been excellent) we are going away for the weekend so will take a lot of outdoor pics and see how the battery life will cope.

The reviews on battery life whilst using 4K video have not been great so not expecting much. So may source another video camera rather than multiple batteries :-)

Thanks for all the advice

I don’t know about the V but with the III you can use and external batter pack via usb and record at the same time

Ignore that the latest firmware update (have just done it rather than when it was first release) stopped that happening, luckily battery packs still charge the camera when its turned off

Thanks for the update.

I watched a Disney vlog recently and they had power bank machines onsite. I take it if the connections fit these can be used?

Yep FuelRods are available at WDW at $30 for a pod that you can just change out for a fresh fully charged one and works like any other power bank, so your usb cable for the camera will plug directly into it.

However they are about a 1000mAh battery so won't fully recharge the battery in the camera.

For a similar size device look at the Anker Powerbank 5000 amazon/Anker-Power...powercore+5000 I've got one and plan on picking up a second before going later this year
