Cape Coral
Hi, Due to our cruise being cancelled thanks to the children vaccine policy, im looking at alternative plans for a week.
I like the idea of a villa with a boat in Cape Coral. Has anyone done this before? Where can I take the boat ( I believe I am able to drive one without a special licence) What else is there to do in the area? |

We went on a boat trip and saw dolphins close up, visited lots of beaches like sanibel island and went shopping. The Ford garage is a must for the best burgers, we had a gorgeous villa on the water but didn’t hire a boat. It’s beautiful there but we had red tide so the yacht club beach was closed. I would love to go back!

We owned a villa in Cape Coral for 16 years (sold up in 2019), it’s certainly had changed a lot over that time with many more restaurants, stores, bars and attractions popping up.
You can hire a boat from many Cape locations as well as from Bokelia, Ft Myers etc and you don’t need a special license- it’s great fun but can be expensive. With regards things to do, there is a local (man made) beach with a pier, tiki hut restaurant and play area and on the Cape there are loads of shopping malls and stores (Supertarget, Walmart, TJMaxx, Ross, Kohl’s, Walgreens, etc), independent and chain restaurants (including Carrabas, Denny’s, Perkins, Outback, Fords Garage, Five Guys, as well as some lovely waterfront restaurants- Rumrunners, Nauti Mermaid) and some hires of water sports down at Tarpon Point. Depending upon where your villa is on the Cape (to easily and quickly get across the causeway to Ft Myers and the barrier islands of Sanibel and Captiva, I would recommend you rent in zip codes 33904 or 33914 - being up in the Northern areas of the Cape means you will spend more time travelling to get to beaches and attractions off the 1-41 and 1-75 corridor) If you like shopping, some of the Outlet malls are fab (Sanibel Outlets, Miromar, Coconut Point, Gulf Coast Mall - all have websites). SW Florida has so much to offer - beaches, water sports, boating, fishing, kayaking, segways, bike hire and the usual movie theatres, bowling alleys and in the summer months a water park. We did a couple of trip reports with details of a few touristy things we did on one of our trips. We are booked to return to the Cape this October for 6 weeks (this time purely as a tourist in a waterfront villa booked through VRBO 🤞 so the Cape still holds its appeal for us. If you have any questions, would be happy to answer them. |
