Is red tide a thing in early May? Wondering if I should make a back up plan just in case it affects our stay. I hope it doesn’t as have wanted to go to Ami for a long time and we have enough other challenges!

Generally red tide is way off shore in early summer Lou, we've only encountered RT a few times during our winter stays but as we aren't beachgoers it's never affected us [bar 2003 Manasota Key]. You'll likely be ok and have a great time on AMI .

Hi Ems, my reply to Lou applies to November [when we stay], nobody knows, from 27 years of staying on SW Fl we've only experienced one unpleasant RT situation. Where we live on Bokeelia, as the crow flies we're about 1/4 mile from the water, never yet had problems.

Many believe the 2018 Lake O highly toxic cyanobacteria fresh water discharges that clashed with RT is a yearly incident, not so, it's rare and whilst likely to occur again, hasn't yet.

Whoa - wonder if that witch Isla had a hand in causing this carnage. Blasted red tide! I haven't looked S27, are you monitoring Lake O discharges too?

Keep well S27

I'll contact pals on Pine Island to see how/if RT is an issue in Lee County. Unfortunately due to the massive amount of rain you're encountering the Army Corp of Engineers must be opening the gates!

I have read that Hurricane Elsa did bring a load of dead fish ashore.
