Thanks for all the suggestions, will have a look at them and see what suits. Was hoping to do a day in Key West, a day in Key Largo area and a day in the Marathon area.
Is there anything worthwhile doing in Miami while we wait for the rest of our group to land at Miami airport? Probably will have about 5/6 hours to fill by the time we’ve driven from Marathon.

Also is there a pickup area where we can wait at Miami airport, does anyone know?

We had only 1 afternoon in Miami, and did the open-top bus tour! Got to see the whole city this way in a few hours, and still made us feel like we really got a taste of Miami in a limited amount of time. We opted not to use the hop-on-hop-off aspect of it as we really only had 3 hours or so, but if you have 5-6 hours, you could definitely pick a stop to get off and explore a bit further too!

Ah we had this booked for our honeymoon! Unfortunately the day we had this booked for, Sunday, the weather was showing pretty bad - rain and lots of thunder storms, so they had to cancel the trip for that day. We couldn't move it to another day anymore as we were leaving the Keys and going to Miami the next day, so my tip, if you're doing this, would be to NOT book it on your last Keys day - book it on your first Keys day so you have room to reschedule it if needed! I'm still sad we missed out on this!

I'm sorry you missed it, it's absolutely amazing seeing the turtles in the ocean as you fly low and the landing at Fort Jefferson is amazing its a magical place. No one lives there except some National Park staff and the occasional camper who needs a permit.

There is a sea crossing that is less expensive but it can be very rough and the people come off the boat looking very green. So about 50 people a day go. The boat people arrive later and leave first so you feel like you have a dessert island to yourself.

Its amazing and would certainly do it again in a heartbeat.

It is an amazing day. When the boat docked I boarded to use the toilet (permitted), I will never forget a poorly lady being helped off, she was so unsteady on her feet and had obviously vomited.

We would also recommend the sea plane tour.

Something that most people dont think of... When you get off the plane in MIA, set your GPS to the Walmart in Homestead and pick up an appropriate quantity of the cheapest foldup chairs you can find. Often $10. Then drive a bit south of Marathon to I think Bahia Honda State Park, and just park your car on the side of the road where you are able. Take those chairs and a cooler filled with ice and cold drinks and walk right out into the Gulf of Mexico. Then sit your chairs in the shallow aqua blue water, soak up the sun, drink those beers, and enjoy life.

I love that! To me, this is what the Keys is all about. Some of the very best experiences cost nothing and no amount of commercialism or money grabbing can disguise this fact.
Back to my walking the disused 7 mile bridge!
