Am I over reacting

I hate lateness. Height of rudeness in my opinion. 10 minutes - ok, maybe. Any later than that then at least a phone call should have been made.

Especially when you have been slaving away cooking an lovely, and expensive, dinner for them.

I would be mad too. 5 minutes - ok, 10 minutes, late, 35 minutes! My blood would be boiling.
Reminds me of the time we had a party for DDs 6th birthday, my mum and sister arrived 45 minutes early, we were still in the shower. Stayed half an hour, and had the cheek to ask for doggy bag of any bits that might be left. Turns out they were meeting people at the pub instead.
I think you need a cooling off period without your friends, give it a couple of weeks, and hopefully it won’t be as upsetting.

Thanks everyone.
I feel better to have vented lol and you guys have helped me to feel justified and also to forgive.
They came in 2 groups.
I am ready to let it go and I have learned not to go to such an effort again. Some people appreciate it, some don't.
Two of them rang to apologise today. I explained why I was angry and they understood where I was comming from.
I'm over it now 😁

Being late is my pet hate is have been fuming. As you say maybe 1 late but all? No I’d have been annoyed. I can’t stand when you arrange to meet someone and they are late or you plan to go somewhere and they aren’t ready on time!
At work today they were talking about a woman who everyday turns up late and apologised saying “I don’t understand it I leave at the same time every day” - WELL CLEARLY YOU NEED TO LEAVE SOONER! I’d sack people for that.

While I understand your frustration - life is too short.
I used to get annoyed by so many things and have spent years realising it was doing me no good at all. In fact the reverse. These days I try not to let these things annoy me. Yes it can be a pain, but it happened. Move on as you cant fix it.
The question is which is more important to you - the food or their friendship? And of course you can get in to the "if they were good friends they wouldn't have been late" - but dont - it happened.
The anger does no one any good - especially you.

My daughters friends are always late. They will say they are meeting at a certain time, ask to make it s big later, then again and then agree on a time and she turns up and they are STILL late! It annoys me when they are meeting somewhere and I don’t really want her hanging around alone waiting for them.
