We went about seven years ago so it could of changed. We stayed on Boa Vista in the Rui closest to the airport.
Hotel itself was lovely, food decent enough nothing special.
Pool and pool bar were nice. If you don’t mind going somewhere and not leaving the resort that’s fine.
You can’t really go into the sea/walk on the beach as it’s usually too windy. Was very windy around the pool area too.
Gym and spa were great too.
Not for us I’m afraid.

echoing the above. We also stopped in the Riu a couple of years ago in Jan. We wanted a winter break. It was windy, beach wasnt really "fun" with the sand. We did a couple of trips (off road adventure) which were ok. Local town was quite impoverished and felt uncomfortable. The holiday was really a "hotel only" complex holiday - no sea or sand due to wind.

For the money I would save and go to Mexico and do the same (hotel complex without leaving) because you could at least use the sea and sand plus the costs would be similar.

We have booked Rui palace Boa Vista for September after recommendations from friends. They really enjoyed it, but said it’s a more relaxing holiday. They went on a few excursions which looked great.
They went in September too and said it was a bit windy some days but mostly they could use the beach and the sea. I guess September isn’t too bad for wind.
We only started looking into it as we know a lot of people who have been and keep going back.
