Air Fryer? Advantages/disadvantages?

Those who have them - Wondering if this would end up not being used
Thing is - Son cooks lots of stuff in the oven just for himself as we aren't keen on this stuff, (chicken breasts, wings, burgers, stuff that makes a heck of a mess of the oven) and quite frankly the oven needs cleaning a lot of late - and life is too short!

Would cleaning one of these be easier than cleaning the oven? Iv'e seen photos of air fryer lids looking grotty? But at least you don't need to get down on all fours to get into the oven?
I'm guessing it would be cheaper than heating the whole oven?

I sometimes cook wedges in the oven in a little olive oil, could I do that in there too? How about things like frozen fish portions? hash browns that kind of thing?

Does it make the kitchen smelly when in use?

Sorry about seeming a bit dull here, but I know nothing of these things

So, advantages/disadvantages and recommendations? Thanks!

I don't know the answer to any of your questions but going to watch this thread as I've also been thinking about buying an Air Fryer but not too sure about them!

I have a Philips air fryer - there is no lid, the basket and base both go in the dishwasher so cleanup is easy - it’s my most used kitchen gadget along with my Nespresso machine 😊

We have a Ninja airfryer and absolutely love it. When we got it I thought it would only be used for chips, but as there is only the two of us we use it for all sorts of things rather than the oven, including baking cake and making yoghurt! Anything you can do in the oven, like pork chops, hashbrowns, sausages, fish etc can be done in the airfryer. It is very easy to clean as the surface is non-stick, so its just as easy to wash by hand as it is to shove in the dishwasher.

Yoghurt?! Well I never!
Is this the one with the grid/grill like air fryer lid? How do you find that to clean?

I have to say, I was most sceptical when Mrs S ordered one of these from QVC (sorry for swearing). In all honesty, it is the best small appliance or QVC purchase she has ever made.

Even I can cook oven chips in it

I don’t have one, but they do seem like they would be very useful for us as we are only cooking for two. I worry it would be yet another gadget that lives on a shelf though as I don’t have enough room to have it out permanently.
