Connecting flight at Miami

Well we took the plunge and booked our flights for next Sept with BA (with car hire for part of the trip to make it a package).
We will be flying LHR to MIA then taking a connecting flight with AA to Orlando. We’ve never flown indirect before so wondered if anyone can advise whether we need to collect our luggage after immigration and do another bag drop or if the bags will be automatically transferred for us (all flights under one BA booking).
Grateful for any advice and tips so we don’t get in a muddle at Miami 😁

Yes you clear immigration, collect your bags from the belt and there is a separate transfer area where you drop your bags off for the next flight. If you are doing the same on your return journey the bags would be checked in at Orlando and you wouldn't see them again until you land at LHR. At least it means for the MIA-MCO flight you are domestic passengers and just collect the bags and go straight to your car.

That’s great - thank you. We’ve made sure we have plenty of time to clear immigration and the plan is to stretch our legs and grab something to eat before taking the flight to MCO but we weren’t sure about the bags.
More straightforward on the way home we’re driving down to Miami for a day before flying back 🙂

Just a word of warning. Is your return journey MCO / MIA / LHR?
If so, and you don't check in at Orlando, you would be treated as a no-show and your remaining MIA/LHR flight would be cancelled.

No we’re OK on that front as our return flight is just MIA-LHR but thanks for the warning - it’s good to know!
