Those with PCOS... !
Today I was clinically diagnosed with PCOS. My Dr has advised me that according to my BMI, I am overweight and I need to aim to get to the top 'healthy' weight of my BMI which means I need to lose just over 1 stone.
I have been reading up on suggested diets and only seem to find the common answer of cut out potatoes, sugary drinks and switch white breads, rice and pastas etc to wholemeal. everything else seems to conflict other advice. Can someone pinpoint me to a useful website with the best diets for PCOS sufferers. I don't mean do slimming world or anything like that, I just need to switch my diet up so that I'm reducing my risk of type 2 diabetes. I will also be upping my current exercise routine. Thanks in advanced.

Sorry but your doc using BMI to guide you is rubbish. BMI is not a good tool.
I can't offer much advice unforuntely. Simple changes like cutting out fizzy juice, tea & coffee can make quite a difference. independent/life-s...-a7894951.html |

I agree too about the BMI to guide me to a suitable weight.
Unfortunately I am carrying extra weight around my tummy area associated with PCOS. I know I need to lose some weight so I'm trying not to get hung up on the figure on the scales, I'd rather go by how I am looking in the mirror and how my clothes feel. My best friend is 12 stone but is in size 8 clothes and has the body of an athlete! I guess some older GPs are still insistent on the BMI method. Thank you for tagging the article though - it was a good read

BMI is not an absolute about someone’s health, but it is an indication, particularly if like yourself (and myself!) you carry the excess weight on your tummy.
I often point people towards this website as it is evidence based and reliable with lots of hints and tips google/amp/s/d...revented%3famp |

My youngest DD (21) was diagnosed with PCOS when she was 17.
She has always struggled with her weight and after losing with slimming world successfully she felt it wasn't the lifestyle she wanted. She switched to my fitness pal and monitors her calorie intake religiously and exercises on a regular basis. In just over a year she has lost over 3 stone - this period also included two holidays to Florida.
