Saying 12C still means 12 degrees C and I think it should be Celsius which is the same as Centigrade, just what we used in the lab Archibald, ie weather reading entered into the met database was entered as 12 C which I think was headed as Celsius. I may be wrong and stand corrected if I am wrong.

I learned typing in 1986 and we were told then:

No rd or th, just number
No punctuation after Dr, Mr etc (or indeed etc, eg, ie)

So this is over 30 years old, not exactly sudden!

Centigrade is banned in my house. Modern speak again!

I even had to get the manual out to change the default dashboard settings on my car to show Fahrenheit.

I am don’t believe in Christ however I hate to see XMas or any other shortened version of Christmas - Christmas is such a lovely word it deserves to be used in full

I guess I am just an old fashioned gentleman
Fair enough, but X is the first letter of the Greek word for Christ, and has been used since the days of the early church. I know you are not saying this, but some people who try to claim that X is somehow ‘trying to hide the Christian origins’ are completely barking up the wrong Christmas tree!

(Those are the same people who think the American custom of saying ‘Happy holidays’ is a sinister plot against Christmas - er, nope!)

I hate Crimbo though - ugh

I can remember in primary school being told you don’t put full stops after Mr, Mrs or Dr because the abbreviation ends with the last letter of the word - Mister, Mistress, Doctor etc. We were also taught how to compose formal replies to invitations written in the third person, eg Mr & Mrs Blank request the pleasure of the company of...

I couldn’t agree more Tom. Even in notes to myself I write 12th 31st etc
Wouldn’t have dawned on me not to.

How we all differ; if I received a letter in that style, I'd think it very odd and wonder why the company was sending correspondence out with such a sloppy presentation!
Might even make me wonder if the company was as sloppy in other areas?

I noticed too...

The one that gets my goat is "shop the Christmas/Spring/Summer (etc) edit" as used by such establishments as Next and M&S.
