When/why did they stop saying "th" "st" etc in adverts?
instead they just say 22 or 12
Anyone else noticed?

No idea re adverts; never noticed.
However, I'm involved in provision of medical education/exam material and our editorial/house style has always been to state a date as 15 December & not 15th December, ie, more concise; maybe tallying with the Plain English campaign? Just had a look; yes, we are an organisation holding the Plain English crystal mark. Edited at 10:15 AM. |

My last P.A. used to type letters with the date not having th, nd, rd or st showing
I cannot stand seeing for example 12 December and told her I wanted 12th December etc etc. Old fashioned but I prefer it that way so she changed to what I wanted.

I still use 12th and never got my head around C - thankfully the majority of my friends are either living in or from USA so is Fahrenheit works. The rest can convert themselves or F off lol
I am don’t believe in Christ however I hate to see XMas or any other shortened version of Christmas - Christmas is such a lovely word it deserves to be used in full I guess I am just an old fashioned gentleman |

My other pet hate is where letters (as in correspondence) are 'justified'.
I refused to sign letters done in that fashion as I wanted them 'flush left' with a ragged right margin.

Me too Tom! In fact I didn’t even know that it had changed?
Is the 12th December suddenly not plain English anymore?

Carolyn. The 12th is still in my vocabulary and I still use it in letters, speech and even texts.
My view is if a letter comes to my house and for example the first line says - ''I refer to your letter of the 12 December'' When I read it my mind turns that 12 into the 12th. hence the modern style is pants.
