It does say "known" suspect and that the suspect and victim knew each other so you are probably correct.

I read the employee was sacked that morning so came back and shot the boss

The shooting happened just after 8 p.m. inside the Under Armour store.
Ten to twenty shoppers were inside the store at the time of the shooting, according to police.
Police said a female manager was found dead on the scene after the suspect, Daniel Everett, opened fire.
Everett had been fired Monday morning, according to police.
An arrest warrant for first-degree murder has been issued for Everett.

We went to the outlet today, hubby and son tried to get into under amour but it was closed. Nothing to suggest the above. Only saw it on the news on our return.
Sadly this isn’t such a irregular occurrence. The day before we arrived in nyc a few years back a man was shot dead outside our hotel. Welcome to America sadly
