Arthritis...
The past few years, once the cold hits, I suffer from arthritis in one foot and a thumb!
I’m not on medication apart from Ibuprofen. As a Crohn’s bod, it’s , I’m told, part of the immune disorder. How do others deal with it, any tips etc. Would be appreciated. This year, my foot has been particularly painful and the colds not really set in yet! |

My Wife thinks she is developing arthritis in her thumb as well
Painful and very stiff. I think her self diagnosis is correct as she already has it in her knees, shoulder and hips.

I have OA diagnosed in one knee, and I suspect both feet which has been going on for longer than the knee but less troublesome,
I'm really struggling now it's colder in fact it has got worse over the year. I take Co-Dydramol when working during the week or if it's feeling worse, paracetamol if needed when resting at home. I'ts walking I struggle with as nothing stops the pain. Or if I've been on my feet all day the 10 min walk home is often really painful. I also use Voltarol cream as I can't take anti inflams by mouth due to other tablets I take.

Short answer - it depends.
If someone genuinely thinks it is arthritis related to Crohn's then you should see a rheumatologist to get a diagnosis. This type of arthritis is caused by your immune system attacking your joints and there are specialist treatments that can be given. If it's just "bog standard" wear-and-tear arthritis (osteoarthritis) which is not related to Crohn's, then keeping the joint warm, using a thumb splint or insoles may help, as well as keeping to a healthy weight. Lots of people find that rub in creams are good for osteoarthritis, so it might be worth seeing the pharmacist.

Im 33 and I have it across all of my knuckles in my Left hand, once winter sets in it can be painful, I also suffer from Gout attacks in my left foot but they usually only crop up every few years (thankfully!).
My hand it's from a few bad injuries playing rugby when I was younger and my hands never been the same since, every time I make a fist all of my knuckles click. I tend to find Naproxen helps if you can get it on prescription, it's a little stronger than Ibuprofen, but without the nasty side affects of things like Tramadol.

If its arthritis caused by crohn's then she cant take NSAIDS sadly. OP are you on any maintenance medication for your crohn's? normally if you get the inflammation under control then it should help with the joint pain.
I have UC and have been suffering with sore joints. Changed my medication recently and it has helped alot. I'd set up an appointment with your consultant or GP and look at your options

I’ve recently been diagnosed with OA in both hips, it’s moderate but I don’t know how quickly it’s developed as I’ve never had an X-ray before, I’ve been prescribed naproxen, sometimes it helps not always, I’m also using Flexseq gel which you apply but don’t rub in, that seems to help as well, I must admit I’m struggling a bit to come to terms with having something that’s not going to go away 😢
I’m already worrying about how I’ll cope in Florida with all the walking x |

I dont know much if anything about arthritis and I feel for all of you guys and gals, if heat helps I wear a zero fit underlayer for the golf just now, it is warm and keeps you warm, I also have a hand warmer which is rechargeable, also wear mittens and socks made by ojbro vantfabrik from sweden, really good if expensive. I hope you guys and gals find something to help you. Probably way off the mark but hopefully something I said might help.
