What Happens in Vegas...Day 4 - Venetian, Trevi & Thunder.

Index

Previous Day

Friday 3rd June 2016

I woke up at around 8am had some water, then went back to sleep for another hour as I had a bit of a sore head. Once I woke up, I felt fine and decided to get showered and dressed. Amy however, was not feeling as good, she was feeling very fragile and decided she wanted to stay in bed a little bit longer to try and recover.

It was about 10:30am, I was quite hungry so I left Amy in the room and decided to go and explore the hotel a bit by myself and check out the food court. Caesars Palace food court is located just in front of the forum shops; there are a number of places to choose from including Starbucks, Phillips Seafood, DiFara pizza, Smash burger, a salad bar, LaGloria Mexican, Wok & Ramen and an Earl of Sandwich.

I opted for EOS and chose the Tuna Melt with a side of coleslaw and water. I paid $16 + tax, once you place your order they ask you to walk round the side and they will call your name once it is ready.

I finished eating my food and decided to connect to the Wi-Fi to have a little catch up with friends and family back home, as I did this I got a message from Amy, she was feeling a bit more lively now and was getting ready to come and meet me.
By the time Amy met me it was around 11:30am, she joined the queue and quickly ate her food and we then decided to walk down to the Venetian and look round the hotel.

Today was a real hot one, we were happy that we chose to spend the day inside the air-conditioned hotel rather than laying round the pool, the walk to the Venetian was uncomfortable enough, this was probably more to do with the fact we were slightly hungover and feeling sorry for ourselves.

Our first stop in the Venetian was by the Grand Canal Shoppes, we stopped at the Coffee Bean first for some vanilla iced coffees and water. I didn’t get a picture of these because it would be a pretty boring picture; I think we paid $6.50 for these.

I took a picture of the ceiling whilst we were waiting for our coffees, I stayed at the Venetian when I was about 13 on a family holiday, at the time I didn’t appreciate how amazing this hotel was.

We spent the next couple of hours browsing through the shops and working our way around the canals, we stopped in Godiva and they were giving out free samples of caramel chocolate, we were going to buy some of the chocolate covered strawberries, but Amy was getting quite hungry again so we decided to make our way to the food court instead.

We got a little bit lost trying to find the food court; I find the Venetian quite a difficult hotel to navigate, so it ended up taking us a little bit longer to get there. We did manage to stumble across Carlo’s Bakery on the way, and we both picked up a cake each to take back to the hotel. I chose the Lobster tail, I don’t have the receipt for this but I think it cost me around $5/6 with tax.

We eventually made our way to the food court, they have many places to choose from, but I wasn’t feeling overly hungry so Amy offered for me to share with her, we chose to eat from the Wasabi Jane counter, we got a 2 item combo of teriyaki Chicken, orange chicken, rice and noodles. This came to about $12 with a bottle of water. I don’t have a picture of this because Amy was too hungry to wait, but we both really liked this food and compared it to Panda Express if anything I think I preferred this.

At this point we decided to head back to the hotel, it was close to 4pm now and we were heading to the Excalibur that night to watch Thunder from Down Under and we wanted to have dinner beforehand.

We had a fairly quiet/ relaxed afternoon in the hotel and slowly got ready for the evening, our show wasn’t starting until 11pm, but with the traffic the previous night we thought it would be a good idea to leave the hotel at around 10pm to make sure we had plenty of time to get to the Excalibur before the show started.

We decided to eat our cakes from Carlo’s bakery, I kept forgetting that mine was being kept in my bag all day, when it came to opening it the box was really squashed and the cake didn’t look very appealing, nevertheless it still tasted delicious. I stole a picture from Google so you can get a good idea of what it looked like:

Tonight we were going to eat at Trevi, this is an Italian restaurant located in the Forum shops, when we arrived we were asked if we wanted inside or outside seating and we chose outside so that we could be by the fountain. Weirdly I remember getting really cold that evening, to the point I was sat there with goose bumps, this was probably a mixture of tiredness, AC and the fact I had a little bit of sun burn on my chest, but in future I would consider bringing a light jacket with me to wear in the evenings.

As we were reading the menu our server bought us over a basket of warm mixed bread, balsamic vinegar and olive oil.

The server in here was really friendly, he helped us go over the menu and explained that the portion sizes are on the larger side and if we wanted to we can ask for half portions. We chose two starters to share between us, firstly the “BACI DI PANCETTA CON POLLO” - BACON-WRAPPED CHICKEN AND MOZZARELLA MEATBALLS WITH MARINARA and also the “CALAMARI FRITTI” - CRISPY CALAMARI, MARINARA, BLACK PEPPER AIOLI.

For my main I chose the Italian chopped salad, but I opted for the half portion at the servers recommendation as he said this salad was “huge”, Amy chose the Spaghetti with meatballs and again she chose the half portion.

I didn’t manage to take any photos of the food here, the lighting was really off as the colour of the sky repeatedly changes and where I was only using my phone camera the picture quality was awful, as you will tell by the two pictures I do have.

Once we had finished our mains the server asked us if we wanted desserts, we couldn’t make up our minds and eventually decided that we wouldn’t order one so instead we asked for the check.

About 10 minutes later our server came over to our table with a plate in hand and wished us a happy birthday, he didn’t want us to leave without a dessert so told his manager it was one of our birthday and got us a brownie for free.

We thought this was such a lovely gesture and regardless of the free dessert this was definitely the best service we received all holiday, we both agreed we would eat here again.

The bill came to $47 + tip and we split this evenly.

Once we had finished dinner, we headed back to our room to grab a few things and then it was time to leave for the show.

We got an Uber to the Excalibur at around 10:15pm and made it there by 10:45pm. The show finished around 1am, we had a few drinks and went to the casinos and made it back to the room around 3:30am.

Next: Day 5 - MGM Grand, Wet Republic and Marquee.

Another fab day, you ladies look gorgeous all dressed up for your night out!

How amazing was the lobster tail?! I had one when we visited Carlos Bakery in the Florida Mall... so sickly but amazingly delicious! I am seriously craving one now!

Great result on the free dessert too, what a lovely gesture from the waiter

Aww thank you, we thought we should make an effort that night!

Omg, the lobster tail was amazing! I first chose a nutella muffin, but then changed my mind at the last minute and I'm glad I did, Amy had an oreo muffi and she said it was ok, nothing special though.

It was so lovely of him to do that, the brownie was amazing as well! We were very pleased!

Wash your mouth out! Nothing beats Panda! Haha

Great day again minus the hangovers! your evening meal sounds amazing & how great to get the free pud. That reminds me of the Friends episode where Joey is working at central Park and he sings happy birthday to every pretty girl he sees so he can give them a free muffin

Haha, I do love a good Panda, but nothing beats the non chain food court Chinese food .

Omg! That is exactly what Amy said when we left, I was really shocked at first, I thought he meant he wanted us to sing happy birthday to his manager, then I realised, he was giving us the dessert but his manager was behind him lol.
