We have three big events this year (ds is 18, it’s our 20 year wedding anniversary, and dh is 50) so before Covid we had planned to go to Japan to celebrate it all. Unfortunately it’s not going to happen! I think it’s just too risky to plan something so far away at the moment, and especially in a country which hasn’t really opened up yet as far as I am aware. We have smaller trips planned for the 18th and anniversary and haven’t decided yet about the 50th.
Sorry to be a downer!

I think Japan will simply have to wait to accommodate us! But we will be visiting and cannot wait

Japan in mid-summer will be very hot and humid, which some might like but would make me ill (I’m a delicate little 🌸 ) !

I was there in May and it was bad enough.

We went in July 2019, it was fine. sure it is hot but not that bad if you take things slowly. Early July means much lower queues and long days too, we queued for a max of 30 mins for everything except the FP for Toy Story Mania.

The plan was to go this year but we binned that idea and have booked orlando instead. Japan still have no roadmap out of reopening borders.

reddit/r/JapanTravel/

has a good sticky topic to get a roundup of news.

We went the beginning of May. The weather was perfect until the last couple of days when it was starting to get really hot. I would not be able to handle the middle of their summer either.

I'm not hopeful for being able to visit Japan over the next few months.

Would love to go though, and after reading all about the changes at the US Disney parks I'm contemplating skipping the US parks for a while and going to the Tokyo parks instead when Japan reopens. (I live far closer to Japan than the US so it would under normal circumstances be much cheaper/easier to get to Japan!)

In the meantime, I've gone a bit crazy over Japanese food and now have lots of Japanese snacks in the house! Makes up (just a bit) for not being able to go in the near future. Have some more Japanese tea and snacks on order at the moment too!

Same here!

We buy Kirin Salty Lichee drink from imports of Asian food, our new fav place to eat is a Japanese place in Glasgow and last week we’re in London and got “one or two” snacks and drinks from The Japan Centre store in Leicester Square

Our plan was to visit in 2021 which never happened for obvious reasons. I think our revised plan will be to probably visit May 2024 after Golden week

I'm still set on April 2023 and plan to book it all in May / June this year. Flight with Avios and hotels on a flexible booking so no real risk.
