Puppy pads yay or nay

Having got our 9 week old labradoodle on Sunday the weather has been pretty bad for getting her toilet trained outside. I have been taking her out regularly and she done both ones and twos outside. It may have been just luck but I've given her lots of praise.
We've had lots more pees and poos in the house, her favourite go to place for a poo is under the dining room table 😳 I can't restrict access there as we have it open plan to the kitchen. I obviously watch her like a hawk and try to catch the signs.
Our previous puppy 20 years ago was in the summer so she spent a lot more time outside with us. I've always thought puppy pads just trains them it's ok to do their business inside, but I'm having a rethink for short term.
She is presently snoozing having kept us up all night 🤣 so I've time to post this.

Our puppy is 18 weeks now and we used puppy pads and going outside for the first month. He is good and does go outside so having puppy pads didn’t stop him from learning to do his wee and poos outside.

Thanks for that. Going to send DH off to get some asap. Do you use a holder as I've got visions of her tearing them up or throwing them around. I can't blame her for not wanting to go out in this wind and rain. We has her second vacination on Monday so it's a couple of weeks after that before we can walk her.

Had dogs all my life and never used pads up until the last one having seen various people recommend them - she chewed and destroyed every single one I put down
She never did this with the newspaper method which I previously used (always at the back door), so I reverted to that and it didn’t take long at all

I got my pup at a similar time last year and chose not to use pads. For the first couple of weeks I took him outside every hour at least, or less if he’d just eaten, woken up or been playing. We used a phrase whenever we went out; “go on” and they soon pick up on it. It still works now a year later! It was tough when the weather was bad but took only weeks before he cracked it. We had only about 3 or 4 accidents in the house in the first few months. He’s also crate trained which definitely helped if I needed to nip out or couldn’t watch him. So it’s just about consistency and perseverance. Good luck! (and a warm coat for you will help )

For me newspaper and pads serve the same purpose. Some prefer newspaper as it’s cheaper and can cling to the floor easier, others prefer pads as they smell less and make less mess

I used neither however. I never find encouraging them to go inside helps. However I will 100% get any future puppies in spring as winter is just so hard

We used pads for both of ours, mainly because we don't get news papers and the breeder was using them, didn't need them for long and I liked the fact they were plastic backed and edges so no leaks and kept any smells in.

The weather is so awful today. Despite being outside about a dozen times or more today there has been no success. I've cleaned up numerous pees and poops inside . Oh well early days yet.
I'm off to work at 1pm and DH takes over.

I didn’t need to use anything to keep them down he would just do his business on them and now chew. He only used them for the first month at most and now goes outside whatever the weather 😝

I agree with poster who said newspapers and pads do the same job, I’ve actually never heard of people using newspapers as puppy pads before. I got 100 pads from B&M for £12.99 and must still have 80 left in cupboard!
