Visiting disney resort
Hi, we are staying offsite and hiring a car. We plan to visit a couple of resorts and boardwalk. What is the best strategy for parking and any parking cost involved.

The best thing is to Park at Disney Springs its free, and then hop on the resort bus or boat that you want, you can always then get on the monorail etc.. once you are in, depends on where you are going.

We've never stayed on site but every holiday we park up at DS at least twice and do a tour of resorts. You don't need WDW tickets, a dining reservation nor a WDW resident to use the free transport.
Park up at the eastern end of Orange garage and you're very near the WDW bus terminal. A few examples:- Bus to Wilderness Lodge. Boat to Contemporary and monorail to the other two on the loop. Bus from one of them back to DS. Bus to S&D, Y&BC and Boardwalk (often same bus ). Get off at any and boat ride to the others. Or simply walk into DS and a bus to PO, OKW or SSR. Mick

PS to the above.
Buses to the monorail loop hotels or the Boardwalk don't generally start until 11am. This is to prevent people parking free at DS and catching a bus to Contemporary (walk to MK) or Boardwalk (walk to HS or EPCOT) and avoid paying parking at the parks. Mick

We did a tour of some of the Disney hotels in late November last year to see the Xmas decorations and as above, parked at Disney Springs and used the buses/monorail/boats. The only resort we drove to was AKL as this is a bit more out of the way and on it's own and the hotel was on our way home anyway, so it made sense to drive. We spent an entire day doing this but we could easily have split it into two separate half days if we had wanted to.

Depends on where you're travelling from but if you approach DS from the west on Buena Vista Drive the off ramp to Orange garage is clearly signposted. Go up the ramp, left over the bridge and right into the garage. Drive as far as you can eastwards and you'll be near the bus depot.
Mick PS A few Dibbers will say "just rock up and they'll let you park" which I think is possible now but our plans allow us to visit a number of resorts in the day. Time is not an issue to us if we have to wait 20 minutes for a bus either. It's just part of our day.

I'll just add to your reply
OP you will be allowed to park at values, and moderates, just tell the guard you're coming to have a look around, no issue there, but note you're not supposed to remain parked more than 3 hours it's free. If you're visiting deluxe hotels, especially those around epcot (boardwalk, beach and yacht club) they'll most probably will only let you enter and park if you have a dining reservation at that hotel at other deluxe hotels, it's more hit or miss. you may also use valet parking at the deluxe hotels, but it's quite expensive if you're visiting multiple hotels, and even more so if they're mostly deluxes, there is a fairly high chance you get turned away at at least one of the parking lots. that's the reason why Disney Springs is easier (not to mention it's free) you also need to consider that disney buses don't run between hotels, so you can't just park at one and do the tour (unless they're all on the MK monorail loop) your other option would be to park at a park and pay for parking there (you only pay once a day, so keep your receipt). then take disney transportation to the hotel you want to visit going from one park's parking lot to another park's parking lot will be the way to go then, if you want to use the car to go places, as it gets rid of the risk of being turned away at the hotel, and end up needing to park... at the park's parking lot ... So, to make it simple, you have 2 "safe" options - park at DS bearing in mind some won't start until 11am BUT remember that once at a hotel, you'll need to transfer via a park, as buses don't run between hotels that's the free option - park at the parks, and take the transportation to the hotel you want to visit, and back , then take the car to the next "zone", rinse and repeat that will cost some $25+ for parking an additional option would be to uber between hotels. |
