If, as you say, you shouldn't miss the flight as long as you're in the queue, then it contradicts going in early as you don't know how long you'll be
If you go by the airports screens and only enter the pre-clearance area as your flight is being called forward then the whole process moves quicker as it's not being overfilled with people who's flight doesn't leave for 3 more hours. Unfortunately their expediting lane was only available to passengers requiring special assistance and airline crew, all passengers were being sent to the main queues and told to listen for the gate staff coming to the front of the queue & calling a last and final call.

I hate being rushed and panicked having to go through the expediting lane though - so we head through early. It doesn’t help that there are peak times for flights so a lot of people would be trying to get through at certain times anyway, even if they did bring such limits in.
