We have now done Sheffield Hallam, Derby and York St John. Was disappointed yesterday at York St John, not the uni but the guy who did the talk on the course. He didn't sell it well, didn't run the course, he only did one module, started the talk 10 mins early so most people missed the start. We came home disappointed. Also the one Accom we could view (as we were limited in time) looked old and shabby and for the price expected better. Having said that DS did like the small campus and location to town.

My daughter liked the feel of York St John. Some of the accommodation no but she like the really modern but obviously really expensive haha accommodation- it would cost as much as our mortgage does a month! She didn't really like the staff on the course she looked at, preferred Teesside Uni staff and course but didn't like the accommodation there so would probably travel of went there. She's got another 3 she wants to see but they not doing any open days as yet due to them clashing with her other two visits.

Sorry but I don’t agree at all. We started visiting in lower 6th as DD’s UCAS application needed to be in by October (vetmed). This is also true for medics and dentists so it is imperative that she attended open days in lower 6th. Even then we didn’t get to visit all she wanted due to clashes. We found uni’s more than happy to speak to lower 6th students and it gave her a nice long time to decided on her 2nd/3rd choices. OP I would say visit as many as you can and really get a feel for them because we found what sounded ideal from the prospectus she really didn’t like when visiting and vice versa. Good luck, it’s an exciting time!

DD will also be a Sept’ 21 starter.
I didn’t realise it was encouraged to visit Uni’s in 6.1, I feel like I’m behind and need to get my backside into gear!
I have just registered for an Open Day for London Met Uni for 15th Jan. Also looking at St Mary’s, Brunel, Kingston, Middlesex & Uni of East London. As it stands at the moment she is determined to live at home so they all need to be commutable from us

I only started looking as DS knows what he wants to do, there are 20 places that do the course and I didn't want to leave it until next summer/autumn and chase around trying to see the ones he wants
(not looking at London or any further south as we are in Midlands) Has been interesting to make a start, see what we should be asking/considering etc without it being too pressurised.

No one we have talked to has said it is too early. No one has asked predicted grades. Don't think finance will change much in the next year or from one uni to the other.

Same as DD, she knows she wants to do either Sports Therapy or Physiotherapy depending on her grades. Can you apply for 2 different courses for the same Uni?

Yes - you can apply for all 5 at the same Uni if you want to. Where is she thinking of?

Thanks Elizabeth. It’s early days but London Met, St Mary’s, Brunel, Uni East London, Kingston, Middlesex or Surrey.
Her favourite is St Mary’s Twickenham as it’s closest to us but they only do Sport Rehab rather than Sports Therapy and I’m gently trying to push her out of her comfort zone to perhaps go further afield. Not quite working yet though 😂

We are planning on visiting some in the summer months as we have realised that some clash and as I have twins we need to consider both of their choices. OP, like you my ds also wants to join the police force. My dd has a stack of prospectus’s already but to the previous poster that said it’s too early, both schools are encouraging visits and have said not to leave everything until Y13.

I somehow missed this thread originally!
