Buying resale

Hi all,
We are seriously looking at buying a resale contract and I wanted to pick your brains, please?
We are seriously looking at SSR, is the end date really 2054 on all contracts? We hadn’t really looked before, were they extended?
I can see the price drops a touch if you are looking at larger contracts, we are thinking 130-150 points, what do you recommend, obviously depending on stripped or loaded?
Who do you use, DVC store seems pricey, Fidelity not so- anyone else you recommend?

We want a different use year from our AKL contract (August) so we can have two lots of top up points.
We are likely to travel May and Sept so we know August is good for Sept so is it better to go for April UY as it is after most of spring break and Easter?

Thanks!

I used DVC Resales albeit I think they may be part of the Tutas Family organisation now.

They have a good 150 Point SSR contract for $103

Edit. Yes they are. I used Rachel Thompson. Very efficient.

Edit The Tutas site has a nice 150 Point Oct contract for $108 but it has 2019 points as well

Look at the other board ROFR thread for current SSR prices passing.
They seem to have taken a slight dip recently.
The best deal used to be buy one with last year's points on banked, which you probably wont use and immediately rent them out to offset against purchase. I did this in 2016 and managed to get a contract for $62 a point when knocking off the $13 a point rental. But the contracts with banked points seem to be coming rarer. If you see one, consider that strategy though.
2054 is the end date on all SSR contracts only, no other resort has that end date (SSR was one of the first one's where they changed how they ended and started making them 50 years after the resort went on sale).
No one is pricey per se- you put in an offer and it's up to the seller to accept or reject.
I've used three resale companies but have probably found DVCresalemarket to be the best, just quick and efficient. I have used Jodi there.
If you were going for a > 150 pointer I'd be aiming to pay in the $90s with no 2019 points.

To concur with the others, we bought in 2003 and the end date was 2054 (one of the main reasons we bought here rather than my emotional choice of BWV or BCV). I’d suggest you may want to wait until January given how close it is. Usually prices drop as resales ‘flood’ the market (annual dues arrive and it prompts people to sell).

Thanks Karen, it is the juggling of exchange rate versus January, which we had heard is good time to buy. Brexit!

I hear you

But you can’t predict the rate and theoretically Brexit is built into forecasting. So it may get worse, it may get better but you can’t predict it. We bought our contracts at 1.77 and 2.01 to the £ (sigh)

So this would be another compelling reason to buy now, if correct!

Yes if you are intending to buy, the rumours look to be coming from good sources, so it would certainly figure into my thinking.
Then when that doesn't work to drive Riviera, what next? You are better grandfathered in sooner rather than later.
