I did when we moved here from the UK.
Guests were staying at our house so we had a few days at POR. I had ALL of my jewelry, birth certificates etc with me.

There is a room with safety deposit boxes just like those at a bank that you need 2 keys to open. It would have been a pain to access regularly but I just needed to leave them for our entire stay. I wouldn't have done it for just passports on a regular holiday and there aren't that many boxes anyway.

A locked suitcase in a hotel room? A quick shake by the burglar, cleaner etc will show there is stuff in it.
Someone carrying a case in a hotel won’t arise suspicion.
Use a travelsafe bag as some have posted. We once put ours in the loo with the cable round the outside of the U Bend so the baddies would have had to remove the toilet pedestal to get off with it.

On our 2nd trip my dad had all the passports in his bumbag and we got soaked on a wet ride, and so did the passports. I think in this day and age, even if we don’t have the physical original on us, a picture on our phones should help us with the Embassy should anything happen. Following advice on here for ID purposes, I now keep a photo of our passports on my phone, but always carry my driving licence on me.

EDIT we also do the same for all our travel documents, including print off of our ESTA’s and travel insurance documents.
As long as the phone doesn’t get soaked or stolen

Plenty of Internet cafes and/or hotel business centres...

I would go as far as emailing myself if I thought it was necessary.

But I couldn’t find the Internet cafes as I couldn’t access Google maps
Then of course I could just use my wife’s phone!

You'd have to know where to find them though.

Or cut through the cable with bolt cutters or even a leatherman.

On all of these the cable is the weak point the one i leave in the car I don’t pretend to think that it would take 30seconds to get through the cable but in a car park this is harder than in a hotel room.

Very true but it is a deterrent. When we used it in the car we put the cable thro the bracket that hold the spare wheel down.
The one I had came with bumph that showed raw cable was resistant to bolt croppers. I think my ones weak point was the padlock. It didn’t have the built in lock combined in the cable.
