My Mom brought me marigold washing up gloves and scourers the first year we were married. I laughed when I opened them but she said, they are flocked you know !
Luckily she also gave cash

Not mine but D once got £500 off my mother to buy a laptop for Uni - great but 6 months later she asked for the money back.

I sent her a cheque for £500. Over the years I knew it wasn’t worth having a row, it’s just how she was if you were ‘out of favour’.
