It's the first time in many years that I've bought a frozen turkey and it was so cheap costing around £12 from tesco and it weighs around 11 pound. I have previously bought expensive turkeys and turkey crowns from Marks and Waitrose and was never overly impressed with the quality being any better than a cheap turkey, although it might honestly have something to do with not being cooked so well.
Me and Mrs MH take turns of cooking the Christmas dinner every year and it's her turn this year, but being she still works and I'm retired I offered to cook it (I'm beginning to regret it). |

I don’t think it matters what you do it all tastes the same, we get a turkey crown from Sainsburys every year And I cook it breast down smother in butter and put some water in the tray. A bit of salt and pepper and brown the top for half a hour. It’s not dry and is Cooked fine, dh loves turkey and I would have leg of lamb any day! Good luck with defrosting your big bird!

If it’s a whole bird, cut the legs off, they can be cooked at the side, but the turkey will defrost quicker without them. A crown is another matter. Try to change the water often to speed the process!
Rinse the turkey in clean water before cooking and don’t stuff it. Do the stuffing separately. Cook it really well.

You could cut the back bone out and open it out flat. Watched them cooking it this way this week and it halved the time needed. Can’t remember the size but it cooked in 2.5 hours.

It’s suggested not to rinse the turkey ..
