Same here . But then again I wouldn’t spend the £8500 either for 3 return flights !

Fair play to those that have been successful enough to have the choice

Yes it is a lot, but I work 7 days a week and only have a holiday every 3 years ( this time 4 1/2 ) so we do travel in luxury. We could go every year in economy but would rather not owing to my wife’s very bad back she found the extra room ment she enjoyed the start of the holiday so much more not being in pain for the first 3 days

I've flown to SFO in upper for about £9k return loads of times - always with someone else paying though.

When it's my cash it's cheapest economy ticket or a miles upper ticket.

I like Upper Class but not 20 times more than economy

I would have to have millions and millions in the bank to pay that, I just couldn’t justify that kind of money ever.

Would rather have the money to spend on luxuries when we were there rather than the flight.
The flight to me is just a means to getting where you need to be.
Each to their own. All the best for you if you can afford it good on you.

We are in a unique position. My wife’s back is very bad, we have traveled with tui 3 times in premium economy and it has taken her about 3 days to get over the flight with reduced days in the parks. Traveling upper class last time we managed to do a few hours in Hollywood studios the day we traveled this made a big difference to the main holiday. Coming home I normally suffer dreadful from jet lag on upper I slept homeward for 5 hours and I was out next day at 6am walking the dog.

I can see the appeal of flying upper although maybe I've just been watching too many luxury travel videos during lockdown! I was lucky enough to get a first upgrade with BA and to travel Aer Lingua and BA Business and it is a great way to travel long distance. I would say though that if someone can afford the crazy cash prices they are probably very good candidates for rewards credit cards and the like that can reduce the cost of flights over time. For example we booked our hotels with pointshound via the BA website, they offer high points per dollar spend so we ended up with over 100K Avios between the hotel stays and the cc points which bumped us into business on the way out the next time and gave us a free flight to Hawaii from SF - if I remember the only charge was $7 per ticket with Alaska BA's partner. So I would do more of that kind of points collecting if I had that kind of budget but overall I can see why would rather fly in style although I assume most who pay the cash fares are also staying in nice digs.
