For those with blonde highlights

What are you doing about your hair?

I often leave it longer than I should before having my roots done and I really should have booked an appointment for Christmas holiday time but I didn’t and now my hair is a mess.

My roots are pretty much down by my ears and now with a sprinkling of grey in there - my hair looks ridiculous.

Other than wearing a hat until the end of lockdown (which could be months away) - what can I do?

I must be honest I have been eyeing up the wigs on Facebook. Mine isn't too bad yet as I happened to get it done right before lockdown but it would normally be done about early/mid Feb. I do have the root cover stuff but at the moment I actually do wear a hat when I go out.

On a shallow level hasnt Jill Biden got gorgeous hair colours.

I usually have my highlights (3 colours) done every 3 months, with a trim in between. They did look pretty awful towards the end of the last lockdown although I am very lucky that I don't have much in the way of grey and my natural colour is more mouse than dark. I managed to get them done at the end of August and then again on the 10th December, so not really due until mid March. I very much doubt I will be able to have them done again until April by which time they will be looking pretty awful again

Im blonde anyway but have lighter highlights , I use a root lightening spray but if your roots are quite long now then it may be pointless but it’s not expensive so could give it a try

Box dye! OK it gives all over colour and no way near as good as being professionally dyed, but when needs must.

Do it yourself, I've done mine for years - saved thousands by now as probably costs me about £10-15 a year in products (and hours in time!)
I used to have a home hairdresser who moved away and showed me. So easy.
I use Topchic tubes, you mix a little with the Topchic peroxide, do around the edges of your hairline first with a brush, then move across in sections, and voila!
Or you can use a cap, but this would be tricky on your own.
Loads of youtube videos out there.

I just leave mine. I can still see the difference from the last time slightly and I was lucky enough to get mine done just before Christmas. I normally have mine done every 5 weeks but I will cope.
I had a bad experience dying my hair myself when I was younger so now wouldn’t dare. Plus have you met my hairdresser! She would kill me lol.

Mine is not too bad at the moment as my last appointment was in December just before second lockdown, I was glad I hadn’t been able to get an appointment closer to Christmas as I would normally!

During first lockdown, I bought some root cover up powders and they worked pretty well. I wasn’t going anywhere so it was primarily to make me feel better around the house and was good enough for that.

This one was my favourite, but it is out of stock on Amazon at the moment. Other options are those by Wow or Clairol. I think I might stock up again, some were hard to get hold off last time.

Luckily this time I too had an appointment in December, but in the last 2 lockdowns I was due in the week after we locked down. I only go every 12-16 weeks anyway so by the time I got back it was pretty dreadful.
I find a good spray of dry shampoo through the roots helps, I brush it out but only loosely, and do an upside down brush/shake for a bit of volume. I really wouldn’t use a box dye

I've got balayage so the colour change doesn't show at the roots but I can see lots of greys. I've got long hair so I've bought 2 boxes of dye and I'm going to dye it all one colour. It'll be boring but at least I won't see the greys.
