Son left accommodation on March 13th, keys handed back 14th July, still paying his rent until 25th August. No movement at all on rent so assume you'll be paying it for the full contract you sign. It's disgraceful.

Some kids this year are going for a boarding house/B+B approach. Lectures/contact time at a couple of DDs friends unis are half a day once or twice a week with home/online study for the rest of the time - say even 12 days a month at £40 a night with £10 travel costs - comes to much less than halls.

My daughter was in private accommodation with liberty living. I don’t know what they are offering for next year. But she didn’t have to pay her third terms accommodation so they are worth looking at.

We have to pay my sons deposit of £200 by Monday. We got the accommodation he requested as first choice. Think we are resigned to paying it this year and I'm hoping a vaccine is available by mid next year so that 2 year will be practically normal.

No liberty living at uclan.
He wants halls, as prefers to be with 1st year students.

My son did suggest a travel lodge!

It's your choice basically, if you want a uni hall you'll have to go with their contract as it is written.

If you can find other ways to make it work then it might be cheaper.

That being said the OP said that they are looking at UCLAN, given that means Preston I'd be more than happy at doing course remotely as right now Preston is right up there as the epicentre of COVID in the UK

I spoke with the uni on friday.
Course is going to be part online, part in uni. But that could change.

My gut tells me to hold out paying deposit.

I work in Preston (well specifically I work from home 90 miles away but go there 2 or 3 times a month) and the place is a ghost town at the moment even allowing for it being out of term.

I can't see anything being allowed to start up there in the next month
