University Packing Tips

My DD will be moving into her university halls - how did that happen?! 😲 - mid October, so im just trying to put together a list of stuff she will need to take with her apart from the kitchen sink as im sure they supply those anyway!
So has anyone got any tips for us as to what to pack for definate as it was a so glad that came with me and what not to pack as that was a waste of time and space?
Thanks

My DD took a doorstop and sweets to hand out, great way of meeting others.

It is worth checking (maybe post on student room) whether or not the pots and pans you have will work. Our DD's hall wrote in their info that all hobs are induction so many standard pans won't work on them.

I'd agree normally, this year maybe take disposable gloves and hand sanitiser to hand out instead of the sweets (or maybe as well as!)

Just remember in the summer they will need the space at home to store it all (and more).

My daughter took a folding airer to dry the washing that didn’t go in tumble dryer. She wasn’t really meant to have it so had to hide it for room inspection. It was needed though because many of her clothes wouldn’t have survived the tumble dryer.
Mattress toppers make a dodgy bed more comfortable.
My daughter needed to buy some clothes for clubbing when she arrived because much more of that kind of going out than when she was in sixth form.
We supplied daughter with a food cover for the microwave from ikea which she left in it and saved the microwave needing to be cleaned all the time.
We also provided her with a small cube air cooler because halls are often hot.
There is probably a lot I have forgotten so I will keep thinking and post again

Most Uni's will confiscate door stops as the bedroom and other doors will be fire doors.
White tac not blue tac as the blue leaves an oily residue on walls and some halls will charge her for damage (mainly private ones).
Check they don't already supply a waste paper bin in the rooms -where I work we do.
Check about PAT testing for any electrical goods that aren't new before you go and keep the receipts for the new stuff to prove it's new.
Check there isn't a list of what to bring on their web site or in any e mails they have sent.
Just a few things to consider!

Basic first aid kit inc plasters, wipes, Imodium & paracetamol.
Soft throw for over the bed or to wrap around for comfort if chilly.
Slippers, sliders or flip flops if not got an ensuite.
