One time when we had bad snow the bosses husband drove round in his 4x4 and collected those who were unable to get in (or not confident to drive in). I love snow but hate driving in it and after causing damage to my car wheel (and coming close to writing my car and possibly me off)
, which cost much more than the days wages I avoided losing, I am very hesitant to do it again.

The funny thing is I drive to my customers homes in the snow then have to get on their roofs. That’s why I always have all weather tyres on my van and our car, we are also rural and have never not been able yo get out.

How does all weather tyres help in getting on to roofs?

I'm sorry but when we take a job we have to all consider how we intend to meet our commitment of getting to and from work. Snow is no different to your car breaking down and you having to catch 3 buses, walk , cycle, taxi etc.
Clearly if you management are saying you need to be in you do as currently anyone who can do their work from home should be.
Fortunately some employers are more flexible than others and will allow you the time off paid/ unpaid or catch up in the next few weeks. But it ultimately comes down to the business they are in.

I've never failed to get to work in 40 years due to snow. Normal cars , normal tyres . Luckily when I was 17 it snowed quite badly and was deep enough to need a shovel in the car in case you got stuck. I learnt to drive confidently in snow even making the car skid and slide on purpose so I knew how to regain control.
Many a winter we had decent snow and went driving up the hills to experience deeper snow on roads.
Now we rarely get proper snow so that's why alot of folk are nervous of driving in/on it.
I don't blame you for refusing to go to work if your not confident . Problem is side roads where you may live hasn't been gritted but main roads are probably fine and clear. The boss may only have seen and driven on these main roads thinking "what's the problem"

We usually have at least one day a year that is disrupted by snow and I’ve always got to work. Last week, was the worst journey I’ve had. I went from stationary to sliding. Luckily was two minutes away from work. Ended up walking home at the end of the day and went back later when the roads were clear.
Hope you got to work OP. 👍🏻

Prior to having to work from home if we could since March, we have a policy that if you can’t get in due to weather you can book a day’s leave.

It recognised that employees lived in different areas with differing transport issues in bad weather. Some could perhaps get in, others couldnt.

If the weather was so bad the office had to shut as no one could get in, no one had to book leave.

I’m hoping where I work that’s another policy that could be relooked at moving forward. As we have all been able to work from home anyway, so hopefully in cases of bad weather if we ever get back to a more normal life, working from home rather than having to book a day off, or the office having to close totally, would hopefully be a new option in adverse weather.

OP I hope you managed to get to work in the end if you had to and if you did your journey was a safe one.

I hate driving in the snow- luckily we dont get it much. Last time it snowed while i was at work and i had trouble getting home. I live at top of a steep hill, theres no way i would attempt to drive or even walk to bus stop.
Surely it would be upto the employee to get their own taxi into work ?

It’s not the employers responsibility to get someone into work .

The last time there was bad snow the management ended up closing the office for the staff safety. Unlucky for the office staff we had all taken our laptops home the day before so had to WFH, everyone else got a free day off to play in the snow!
