Night blindness Help!

When I wake up in the night and the room is pitch black I cant see! Everything is blurred and foggy, the dog was restless last night, puffing and panting because she was hot. I couldnt see her, or the room just fog. I put on the light and my eyes were fine, I sent her downstairs to cool off. Its happend a few times, only when the room is complety dark and I have been asleep. I am short sighted and need to get glasses soon, any ideas anyone?

I'd ask the opticians for a detailed eye scan and if it's light issues i.e. Not seeing in the dark ask them to look closely at the retina.

I would go to your go and get them to refer you to an eye specialist at the hospital.

It will be quicker. As the opticians will write to your doctors, you will then have to see the doctor to be referred.

Been there with different eye issues.

We have some motion sensor night lights; a couple in our bedroom and a couple on the landing. Would those help?

I have had very blurred vision in my left eye, very relieved it is dry eye, have drops now and all is well. I will leave it to your imagination what I was thinking. X

Unfortunately sounds very odd to me and not a symptom of short sightedness that I have encountered, I would get to the doctors.

If your room is literally pitch black then you shouldn't be able to see anything in the dark anyway - there's no info going to your brain if there's no light.

Book an appointment at an optometrist if you're concerned, and they will determine if there's anything to be worried about. If there is, they may refer you to the hospital for further testing/examination.

I don't mean to alarm you, but there are conditions that can cause things like this, and they're not the most pleasant. Equally, you may just be panicking over something normal, as our visual acuity is less in the dark than it is in the daytime (ie things will be blurrier) due to the cells that perceive the small amounts of light that may be around.

Its defiantly something that started over the last few months, your eyes usually adjust to the light when the room is dark. This is a fog but its only there when the room is pitch black, I do like a bit of light but my family love it dark. I can see ok during the day and also if theres a light on in the bathroom. I was reading up on it and people have said its looking at bright screens and then going to bed, I am on thd ipad alot so it could be that!
