Driver or train

Hello everyone

With only 82 days till we go my better half and I can't agree on how we get to the airport. I think driving would be the easiest way as it would be pack the car and drive to the hotel but she is concerned about the 2.5 hours journey home after a long day and flight as last time we had to make several stops as I was exhausted. She has priced up the train for far less than airport parking and fuel but I'm concerned about lugging all the cases around, we are a party of 2 adults and 2 children 5 and 10. Your thoughts and experiences would be greatly appreciated in solving our problems.

We are 2.5 hrs away and it will take that on a train (depends where u are in relation to manchester) and the idea of delays or missing train home etc ... getting an open ticket for 4 Could prove very costly... we priced a 6 seater taxi and return was £ 180. In the end we booked car park and will drive as it's £44

for me it depends - how many changes of train would you need to make to get door-to-door (to compare with your car journey). Does it take a similar amount of time travelling using either method of transport? Has your partner priced up a fully flexible train ticket to compare with your fuel and car parking charges? Fully flexible is what you would need really, in case of flight delays/train delays etc.

Quite often and I don't know for your route if you miss the train from Manchester due to late arrival you are able to get the next available one with no extra charge. Thats certainly true on the route we use Edinburgh to Manchester.

Train would be my worst nightmare, especially after the flight home which is depressing and tiring enough let alone then having to wait for trains etc.
