I sell on eBay, old clothes and toys etc. I would say start prices at 99p with the cheapest postage price as if I put things on for more they never sell.

its the fees i cant get away with

sell something for £50 ebay takes about £5 they even have fees on your postage...

its great for buying but not for selling

your also virtually unprotected as a seller these days if someone descided to try it on

all imo of course

Definately go for Gumtree or Facebook. Ebay rips you off and takes 10% of what you sell, then paypal also take a fee too then there is postage on top of that. Could try a car booty too!

I sell a lot on Ebay and touch wood we seem to do ok , we have not really had problems with buyers maybe 1 or 2 over many years . I am realistic with prices dont charge too much and likewise with postage I use parcel2go with larger items or collection only . Just make sure you are specific with photos take a few and add them all , also be detailed with the descriptions . I have also used local selling sites but people do really want something for nothing and then also fail to turn up . Never used Gumtree so cant help with that . Give Ebay a go worth a try just remember there are fees but you can keep an eye on them as you list things so know how much you owe . Good Luck with your selling .

We are in the process of selling all our old baby items and toys. I've sold the majority from facebook selling sites so far, gumtree hasn't been great.

a neighbour's daughter in law sold kids clothes on EBay. She bundled them up by girl or boy, age, season etc so that people knew what they were getting. In each listing she mentioned the other bundles in the hope that people would buy more than one.

My first few sales were items I priced at 99 pence just to get the hang of it. I've had a few awkward customers but there's no point getting annoyed. If I hadn't put the items on EBay they would have gone to the charity shop so no big deal.

We have had great success with our local Facebook boot fair site and our local auction site. I really need to get round to doing an actual boot fair as I used to enjoy those on the weekends in the summer.

I've found that designer kids wear and shoes go well but normal high street stuff doesn't do so well. Usually about £1.99 an item ,sometimes it's hardly worth the fees .
Again , the same with toys unless it is a large item or a bundle .
I think aslong as you are honest in your description of the items and you're realistic about the price then its a good way to get rid of stuff.
We just Car boot my dd's stuff now .
Start the bidding low , avoid reserves and and make sure you put enough specifics so you're not getting loads of messages asking for details .

Clothes don't sell anywhere near as well as they used on eBay unless you have designer brands .

Toys I found the best time to sell was sept onwards ready for xmas .. this time of year they don't go for so much as people have other things to spend money on like summer holidays .

Large items like little tikes your are well to sell on local pages as they will be collection only anyway.

Stuff like lego and other good branded toys will always go for far more on eBay even after fees .. but only post using a signed form method of delivery otherwise you have no protection.

It is worth a look at the children's nearly new sales in your area, it is great to sell clothes and toys. For larger items you can take photos and display them in your table. Have a look at Little Pickles markets, if they do not cover your area have a search in Google as there are a lot of them around
