Las Vegas or Bust - Day 4
Wednesday 16th March 2005
Sightseeing today with a late lunch in the Cheesecake Factory. The weather reports say that the weather will continue to stay warm, with possible showers at the end of the week. We’ll have to see. 1st stop after breakfast is the MGM Grand as this is where the monorail starts and ends. The queues are long but only find out that this is due the Construction Expo after purchasing our tickets. We change our minds and head back to the front of the hotel and catch the CAT bus. We get off at the Stratosphere, buy our tickets for the top and make our way round to the lifts. Security checks here and the usual photo stop. We’re at the top and wow, what a view. There are four rides here, two are fairly lame and two are not for the faint-hearted. We decide that we do not want to do any of the rides and after 30 minutes we make our way back down to ground level. The tackiest and largest souvenir shop is next and then we catch the monorail from the Sahara and go one stop to The Hilton. The stop here is to visit the Star Trek Experience. They have two very good rides – one is a 4D movie and the other is a simulator ride, both with a twist. With the exhibition of memorabilia from the various series, it is well worth the $39. We take the monorail to the Flamingo, passing the convention centre on the way. The Construction Expo located here is huge. No wonder we had trouble getting on the monorail earlier. We make our way thorough the Flamingo (a very nice hotel) and onto the strip. We are having a late lunch at the Cheesecake Factory, which is located in the Forum Shops. Rick has Pizza bread and a Triple Fudge Brownie Dessert and I have a Boston Salad and Dutch Apple Caramel Streusel Cheesecake. We are so full from lunch that we decide to walk back to the hotel. Tonight we have booked a helicopter flight over the Strip. The flight takes approximately 15mins and flies down the Strip as far as the Downtown area and back again. We pre-booked this before we left the UK using Attraction Tickets Direct. We will use them again, very helpful and efficient. The view from the helicopter is breathtaking. Both Rick and I are so lucky. We get to sit up front with the Pilot. After being dropped back at our hotel, we have a few goes on the slots and then it’s off to bed. |

I bet the view from the top of the Stratosphere was good - shame you didn't try any of the rides though

We went up the Stratosphere Tower at night and the view was spectacular, your reports are bringing back great memories.
