When your friends booked in they would have been asked for their vehicle details at the time and issued with a pass. I think that they will have to go to the desk to register your vehicle.

We've never had to register our car details on numerous stays on site. We were just asked if we had a vehicle and given a paper pass.
Last year at OKW we weren't given a pass, just had our band scanned at the parks. One of the OKW security guys said it's easier for them with a paper pass so we asked for one.

We have just come back and they just looked the the magic band on my wrist an waved us through. No parking passes are issued and they didn't scan the band either.

I got a paper pass at OKW in November. You need something on your dashboard otherwise they can't wave you through at the park booths! The CMs in the booths don't have MB readers!
I just wish they'd keep a booth or two just for on site guests to save queuing up behind loads of people paying. And no, they don't take your car details when they provide you with a parking pass - if you're hiring at the airport or DCC the following day for example, you can't possibly know what you're going to be driving! Getting through the hotel security barriers to pick friends up will be the interesting one. However, taxis manage, so if they say they're just picking friends up to go on to a park then they should be fine.

OK here is the updated system.
The Beach Club stopped issuing the paper dashboard passes in 2015 but not full time. This has now spread to all the Resorts and we don't have one this time in SSR. As you get to the toll booths you hand your band over and the guys use the handheld scanning machine. The same one the hotel security guys have had for years now. Works well However there are still a few paper passes around as I have seen them on dashboards. No Hotel has ever asked for car registration details in the 13 years I have been staying on Disney.

We stayed at the contemporary hotel , we were told by the security men at the start of the entrance for our name, we then had to tell reception, they gave us a piece of paper to show on dashboard. On other visits we have drove to resorts and told the security people we were visiting the hotel, we parked no problem at all.
Contemporary hotel to magic is a nice 10 minute walk 😍 can't wait to go back there! Fingers crossed for next year☺️☺️☺️☺️☺️☺️

So glad this thread came up as we are only hiring a car for a few days at the YC and I would have been asking for the paper parking pass good to know that it will be on Magicband so much easier.

We were there 3 weeks ago, at POR, and had a paper car parking pass as usual. We were never asked to scan the magic band at the theme park so, only wen we went for ADRs at the hotels.
