Another 740 admitted to hospital today and that number will continue to climb as there’s a lag. You think those beds could be better used for people needing cancer treatment and routine operations that once again are having to be canceled?

Got to disagree with you and I am young (well, 32!).

We were told constantly last year this was about protecting the elderly and vulnerable. We have done that, so time to move on.

A shame about the beds but not sure what we can do. Cases have been creeping up anyway with mask mandates and social distancing. Hopefully a lot of the beds will be taken by younger people who will recover quicker. We shall see.

That’s that then. All the arguing can stop folks, there’s no chance they’re letting us in from a country that they say ‘avoid travelling to the United Kingdom’


USA still has Delta, (closed borders to India after the UK did), has fewer % vaccinated, fewer tests and sequencing. Same head in the sand policy on opening up as the UK.

At least they can’t blame us when the poop hits the fan.

A. Delta is everywhere, including Europe and USA. The UK is currently testing around 1.2million a day- more than the USA and more than the whole of Europe put together.

B. Not sure what its got to do with 'freedom day'. If they are moving us to Level 4 because of our cases, these were obviously high enough even when we had mask mandates and social distancing.

If we were still dealing with the Kent variant from last year we would be fine. The delta variant came along due to covid running wild in India and changed the game, its transmission rate is through the roof, even with vaccines it has the ability so fill hospitals rapidly.

I would rather listen to 1200 doctors and scientists on this.

The chance of Biden announcing this week we will be able to travel for at least August and September is in my view next to impossible. With the new change in guidance putting us on their red list, it literally would defy belief if there was anything other than “for the foreseeable future” type thing, which is where we are at now.
I’d just prefer a stone bonker defo won’t happen answer rather than waiting each week for a potential change of heart
