When the ESTA system has failed in the past the US officials resort to the old green card - I94s, so I don't believe a word of Thomson's twaddle.

yep - we were flown out when the system was down last year - they asked us if we had done them (i.e. we knew we would get in) and said we'd have to fill in that old familiar card. Took a little longer to get through immigration, but the plane took off on time.

No, the computer failure is at this end not the USA end. I had this happen to me in Bristol once. People who had printed copies of their ESTA were allowed to board and those of us who hadn't printed them out had to wait while they made a 'phone call to the USA about each one of us seperately.

So let's "bookmark" this thread for the future for all those who say you don't need to print your ESTA approvals

Never listen to anyone who says you don't need to print out your ESTA. I've been asked to show a copy of it a few times in the UK and at immigration in the US. Also handy to have a print out of the hotel address to hand. Been asked for that one a few times as well.
