I bought a machine and now monitor my BP at home as I suffer from "whitecoat" which means I only have to walk past a surgery or hospital and my BP shoots up! You do need to be careful not to get anxious when checking at home. I'll sometimes get a higher than usual reading and that sets me off so I need to calm down for a day before checking it again. I keep a record of my readings and show them to my GP, sometimes email them in for their records.
Same here re 'whitecoat' syndrome! Take medication and have done for quite a few years now. Was told I would never come off them once you start taking them.

Have a health check next month and it is a certainty that my BP will be up as soon as I walk in the surgery!

Sorry to hear about your sister, it’s not surprising that your BP has shot up.

Can you swim ? It’s a good form of exercise and can de-stress you (unless you’re really competitive and like to dash up and down the pool hell-for-leather !).

I'm a twenty-five-year member of this club.

Many years ago, I discussed BP and related problems with my Doctor, there is a history of renal failure in my family so I had an interest.

At the time I was talking to him about it, he said they didn't really know what caused it only that at some point an enzyme was being triggered into the bloodstream and this caused the blood pressure to go up.

Since then, they've discovered this enzyme is coming from the kidney itself which was leading to new drugs being developed that targeted the cause directly.

I just take the pill every day and I'm good to go.

Regardless of diet, weight or exercise my BP is always the same, high...

Hi, I am due to see GP again in 4 weeks so I may get a machine and do readings to show her, re the HRT it has been reduced but she doesn’t want me to come off it just yet and I feel I still need it at the moment. Gp ok for me to stay on it as sisters cancer is not genetic but she wants to try and wean me off it.
Thanks again.

Been on blood pressure tablets for 13yrs. I have a home monitor, but don't check it to often , just once every 3 /4 weeks or there abouts. If it's high one week, I don't get stressed about it . Normally is due to an oncoming cold/ flu or work related stress.
I'm a white coat syndrome case at doctors too.
