Lovely, we've sailed on the Getaway and it's a lovely ship.

Yes I think you do add your tip, if you get something to sign then that's when you will add it.
There are loads of bars to choose from

Might be worth checking with your travel agent Karen as I thought they added 18% of the cost of the package?

We sailed NcL transatlantic in 2017 and definitely saw our money’s worth 😂 if you’re into that kind of thing the mai tais are lovely

If it’s 18% on the package cost I’ll be very happy!

I’m definitely into mai tais

Drinks package is great although doesn't include speciality coffee or bottled water. If you took drinks package the 18% gratuity has been added on already and paid. The difference with UK booking is that if you select the drinks or dining package they don't add on a gratuity to the price, it's already built in. Basically whether you book here or via US, if you've selected the drinks package there is no additional gratuity on drinks once on board, just the daily service charge if you haven't paid up front. We did have to pay tax on drinks in the package while docked in Miami.

We love NCL. We're booked on Breakaway again in May.

We've sailed on NCL quite a lot including 3 times this year one of them on Getaway and unlike last time we sailed on Getaway there were no paper slips to sign at all the drinks gratuity on the 'free' drinks package was auto included at the time we booked through Casinos at Sea as was the extra gratuity of the ungraded dining options. However, the daily gratuity for room steward, wait staff etc was added onboard (some people have this removed on their last night).

So no need to carry cash or sign endless till receipts like on some previous trips. You'll see some people signing when they haven't got the drinks package. as mentioned above there might be a little bit of tax when docked in port but not all ports (we had it in Miami and one other can't recall which on European sailing)

We tend to tip the bar staff at bars where we know we will hang out at lot (e.g. Syd Norman's/Sunset Bar/5 o'clock Somewhere Bar) well early on and late on during our cruise and it's well received and means our glasses are never empty and in particular when we go into Syd Norman's for the band later it can be busy but 'our' bard staff seek us out and make sure we are served promptly. Say hi to Elle at Syd Normans Bar on the lanai (I still call that one Sunset Bar lol)

I really like Sugar Cane Mojito bar too my favourite is the Raspberry Guava mojito.

Coffee isn't included; tbh you're not missing much as we didn't rate the Starbucks not as good as we've had elsewhere. You can get regular coffee at O'Sheehan's or the buffet.

When it's busy in the buffet in the mornings head up to Margaritaville where there's plenty of seating and a coffee and juice machines and some breakfast items (I'd take my full plate from the main buffet up there and just get coffee from the upstairs machine).

As mentioned by others book what you can in advance online or when you first get onboard on the screens by the lifts (you can book the noodle bar f.o.c. too as slots fill up) .

The mai tais were my fave, a very random tipping tip (see what I did there) chocolate for the staff on the ship is very expensive and often out of date. We take a tub of Cadbury’s heroes with us and take a small cup or bag with us to the bar each night, always gets us great service and friendly bar staff (we do tip cash as well )
