We have booked 2 nights on a houseboat in Key West (Harborside Motel and Marina) and night in Marathon (Marriott) before heading to Hard Rock Seminole Hollywood the night before flying home.

Our go to hotel in Key West is The Best Western Hibiscus, good value and in a great location. Close enough to Duval to walk to sights but far enough away from the madness. Booked our 5th stay for October already. Islamorada we tend to stay in mom and pop motels with no frills but have stayed at Islander Resort too which is lovely and was totally refurbished after Irma.

Hope this helps. Sharon

We also stayed in Islamorada as felt it would be a good base being in the middle of the keys. We spent 3 nights at The Drop Anchor Resort. It was 2008 when we did it so I don't even know if the hotel still exists, but it's something we always talk about doing again as all really enjoyed it.

It does, looked at it many times but never stayed there, what did you think?

Cheeca Lodge have some good Groupon rates and Islander is good if you like the "resorty feel". We go there to fish and for the watersports so prefer to avoid those places and instead choose the slightly "rough around the edges" old style mom and pop motels. We've stayed at Ragged Edge resort but our go to right now is Breezy Palms Motel, very close to Bud and Marys, walking distance to Lazy Days (our favourite restaurant) and a short drive to Robbie and Loreleis for sunset celebration and great food.

For us, the only way to get a true feel of Key West, as adults, is to stay there. A day trip only really shows you what the cruise ships see. The nightlife is amazing, so if you want bars, amazing music and to see the lively side of Key West, always better to stay a couple of nights. Depends on family of course, ideal for adults but if you have children day trips would be fine.

You need to scratch the surface of the place to truly understand its charm, Fort Zachary is well worth a look and Hemmingway House is interesting too.

We enjoyed the accommodation, we only wanted it as a base and we could choose a 2 bedroom cottage online beforehand and see the floor layouts so that suited us perfectly.

We only used the pool once early one morning, we had it to ourselves, there wasn't much else there.

It was perfect for what we wanted it for, I'm not sure it's somewhere I'd choose for a longer period.

We're staying at Douglas House Hotel for the second time this year. Good location off Duval Street (quieter end), lovely pool area, spotlessly clean, great staff and great value. Oh and free parking!

We prefer the end nearest Southernmost Buoy too, not sure I'd want to be down where Margaritaville etc are.

Is that a ‘party’ area?
