Minister Mark Field manhandling a female protestor...

Utterly horrible to watch.

google/amp/s/amp.l...tester-speech/

I’m assuming this will get the same level of outrage on here as Jo Brand’s comment about Farage... ?

You’d like to think it would get a higher level of outrage, but looking at some comments on social media this morning there’s a lot of people who think it was justified, which is absolutely ludicrous.

Shameful that he’s not resigned already really.

The anger on his face as he grabs her by her throat is horrible. Outrageous that people think that is any way justified.

On BBC Breakfast just now, they interviewed someone and asked his opinion. He said to the effect what was her intention? Did she carry a knife, acid, did she mean harm. Maybe she was non violent, maybe she wasn't - but what about the next person who barges in. In fact he said she should have been stopped earlier as she walked passed people. Yes the guy "manhandled" her - but what if she had brought out a knife?

What if it was not a woman but a man? Would people still be outraged? Would they still say he was manhandled? Why should a female invader be treated any differently. Women can be far more dangerous than men at times.

It’s very uncomfortable viewing, however I did read one comment saying that if she was armed or intended to cause harm he would be branded a hero.

The “what if she was armed” argument doesn’t hold any water. There was nothing to indicate it was a violent protest, as she walks down the room there is absolutely nothing in her actions that would suggest she is intending to harm anyone - all that argument effectively says it’s ok for someone to inflict violence on someone else for no other justification than “well, you know, just in case”.

But yeah, let’s get angry about milkshakes.

Heading down a very slippery slope to restricting people’s rights to protest peacefully and what we can and can’t protest against.

It wasnt the fact he grabbed her but the fact he went for the throat.
Major trigger for DV victims.

Given how much time he actually had, I think he reacted well under the circumstances, using no more force than was necessary. It's all too easy to judge after the event.
