Cruise balance due
Ok, our cruise balance with IGLU was originally due today for a trip in early July and we have paid a deposit of £700. About a week ago we rang and said we had concerns due to age and underlying conditions and eventually, after a lot of ‘don’t pay attention to silly media rumours’ comments it was agreed that our balance wouldn’t be due until the end of March. Yesterday I had a thought and checked the cancellation rules and discovered that unless we cancelled that original day we would still be liable for a 50% payment ie £3,500.
On phoning they confirmed that would be the case even though it wasn’t mentioned when our balance payment date was altered. Our choice was to pay nearly £7,000 there and then or cancel and only lose the deposit or pay up and keep our fingers crossed that the trip would be cancelled by them on government advice. We are not prepared to take that gamble so cancelled. No leeway or goodwill from the company at all and we were charged the full £25 per person cancelation fee on top. I would advise Everyone to check all the terms and conditions and not to assume they have their customer’s interest at heart or that they will keep you informed of details. |

I've heard a lot of stories about cruise agents not acting in their clients’ best interests- more interested in preserving their commission. Some have even lied and not been upfront about cruise line generous cancellation policies. What cruise line were you on?

We were booked with IGLU for a trip including a Hawaiian cruise with Norwegian. The companies who look after their customers will be those who survive once this is over.

I’m a bit confused. The NCL cancellation policy states:
For all new and existing bookings that embark from March 10, 2020 through and including September 30, 2020: Cancellation may occur until 48 hours prior to holiday date for a 100% future cruise credit (FCC) which may be redeemed on ANY Norwegian sailing embarking on or before December 31, 2022. Why would you not be able to cancel and recoup your deposit under that policy - or are IGLU pulling a fast one? Edit - was your deposit made up of flights and hotels as well and only a small proportion of the £700 deposit payable to NCL? Even so, you should get something back. Edited at 08:47 PM. |
