What a week at Freds!

As many of you know I work at Fred Olsen, part time, in the entertainment department doing admin and stuff. *(eating cake and chatting usually)

This week we have had the most difficult week in our history, one of our ships was stranded in the caribbean, we had five people on board who tested positive (4 crew and one guest) we were denied entry to ports, until Cuba very kindly stepped up and let us dock to get people off, and then we had to arrange flights home. British Airways provided the flights, and we all worked round the clock to make it happen, alongside FCO and public health.

I was seconded to the Incident response team room, taking calls from worried family members, some shouting at me, (understandably) some being so lovely they made me cry.

I also cooked and took hot food into work for those staying late, and we all helped put together over 600 care packages for the guests returning home (bread milk etc)

We have already been told our jobs are at risk, sounds silly but I would happily work for free, I have been with them 15 years this year, and Freds is like family to me!

I am very pleased and proud to say that everyone got back safely. Our ships are now being rested until the end of May, and most of our lovely crew will be repatriated and hopefully come back when we sail again.

Thanks for the update, I’ve been following the unfortunate challenges faced by the Braemar and wondered how you were getting on. Let’s hope the cruise industry is quick to pick up after all this - there’s lots of goodwill out there.

Well done, you will not be recognised by the media and press but you and your team are really makinga difference to people in the same way as the emergency services.

Be proud, there are many people who are doing more than their share like you are and we should all say thank you.

Just dont get over tired and run down and stay safe.

Well done and shout out to Cuba too.

I saw a Facebook post from a Cuban showing photos of the BA aircraft out there and how the Cubans love the British and being great to see the BA livery once again.

Hopefully once this dies down the world will be a more tolerant place.
