Mobile Should I sell my original Harry Potter Lego?

I know this is completely subjective, but just wondering now that Lego have announced the release of new Harry Potter sets and the rumour of a big ucs castle in the pipeline should I sell the original sets?

I have nearly all the original sets including all the castles. Didn’t really buy them to make money just love Harry Potter.
But they are currently boxed up in the loft as I have no space to display them
So are they likely to sell for more now or after the new sets are realeased?
Sorry for rambling 😀

Check eBay, look at what people have bid on, not what people are asking, hogwarts castle is on for £134 and still got a day to go, watch a few and you’ll see what people are willing to pay

im not sure how much the new sets would affect the value of the old ones, to be honest, my first thoughts would be it would reduce the prices, maybe for a while, but in the long run, not much x

Prices go up when Lego don’t make it anymore, unopened sets get top prices, some of the Star Wars stuff goes for hundreds, even thousands when its new,a lot price themselves out of sales getting greedy

If you have the original boxes and the instructions books I would hang on to them. In a couple of years time you will be able to command crazy prices. Far more than you'd get if you sell now. I have a Lego Statue of Liberty. They only produced about 1,000 of them. It was $200 when I bought it. Now it commands $7,000. Seriously.

Thanks everybody

Wow love the Statue of Liberty!

Yes have all the boxes, just one of the castles is missing the orginal instructions.
So all four castles, plus the small set from seventh film
Diagon Alley, Durmstrang ship, hagrids hut, Hogwarts express plus all the smaller sets

May just hang on to them, might get to rebuild them all once the kids have moved out!

Think that’s the best decision. I think you’d regret selling them.

it seems highly likely that Lego will be releasing a ucs model of Hogwarts later this year and that it will be in the $500 range . In that event, will you still want your existing one... i have just sold mine. Hogwarts would look rather nice next to my Disneyworld Castle!

To keep boxes or not?

Just put the some Batman and Star Wars boxes up in the loft to join every empty box for every model we've ever bought... there is a LOT of it, including Toy Story, Harry Potter, Christmas and Star Wars. Some of these boxes have been carefully carted through airport security over the years.

We've kept every instruction manual too.

The kids have no intention of selling it for now (and some of it is mine!) but the boxes are taking over.

What do you do?
