That sounds expensive - the 8 flights should be around £4k, give or take.

If you're struggling to get through but have found flights that suit, I'd just book the flights online now and then book a car later on, whether from BA or someone else.

If it helps anyone else out then we booked this morning;

18th Aug - LGW-TPA ba direct
1st Sep - MIA-LHR ba direct

Group F car, 2 adults and 2 children. Total £1776

Out of LGW and in to LHR not a major problem for us so am pleased with what we got as it was under budget!

Cheap direct ones are after 1 September. You can click down for "more flights" but when I looked it jumped the price right up to fly direct.

The best I've managed to get with luggage is £4285 for 3 adults, 1 youth, 1 child. Wed 22/07 until Wed 19/08 Direct out, indirect coming back.

Prime school holiday dates. Wouldn’t say you are doing huge amount wrong but that price which includes indirect on inbound flight is far far too high!

Some may remember that i posted a couple of weeks ago about booking Direct flights from LGW - MIA through Norwegian. £2900 for 2a, 16yr, 11yr & 3yr.

After the feedback received (stupidly wasn't aware of the issues they were facing), i decided to cancel them within the 24 hour cool off period.

I have now taken advantage of the current BA prices.

12/8 - LGW - MCO (Direct)
30/8 - MIA - LHR (via Madrid)
Large SUV
£2850 includes luggage each person.

This again is for 2a, 16yr, 11yr & 3yr.

Really happy with this as we wanted a couple of days in Miami and will now do this end of the holiday, rather than beginning.

I can now rest and stop allowing flight costs to take over my life!

We are looking for a similar time - 23/24/25 July out returning anytime after 22 August but prices are sky high! The last two years I've booked bargains in September leaving end of July. This is the first time I've booked accommodation before a flight and there are no bargains (yet) - typical!

Its so frustrating. These were similar to my original dates but have now changed them to take advantage of the BA prices. Unfortunately couldn't take advantage of the sub £200 direct return leg due 11yr starting high school.

I think we are just going to have to wait it out for these kind of dates, my quotes are at least that for all indirect flights. I’m trying to go with the mantra good things come to those who wait! I’ll start panicking properly if I’ve had no luck after Christmas
