Virgin Holidays Fly Drive not picking up the car question

Hi All. I normally book flights with Virgin Atlantic but due to COVID I’m favouring a Virgin Holidays fly drive booking for the ATOL protection. We don’t want the car. I just saw when doing a dummy booking it talks about a locally payable tax when the car is collected. I don’t recall this on previous fly drive bookings? My query is would be have to pay that even if not collecting the car? Thanks in advance.

If all you want is the ATOL cover then why not book a hotel room at the airport as part of a package deal for the night before you fly?

I can’t see how to book a hotel for a different number of nights to the length of the holiday on Virgin Holidays?

If you were to collect the vehicle locally, you would need to pay for the upgraded insurance (EP / CDW) which would then be subject to local airport fee's and taxes. If you upgraded the insurance directly with Virgin in advance, you would not have anything to pay locally and so no airport fee's or taxes to pay.

I've never heard of anyone being charged anything if they fail to collect the vehicle locally... Many many people ignore the "free" car.
